Bank Street College of Education is an acknowledged leader in early childhood education, serving infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and young school-age children (6 to 8 years old). Our work with young children is based on knowledge of child development, and especially of the interdependence of social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.

We encourage developmentally appropriate practice based on an understanding of how children grow and learn. We feel that teachers, caregivers, staff developers, teacher trainers, and parents can support learning in a variety of settings—from family homes and center-based care, to public and private schools. Indeed, we are all crucial to children’s early, critical years of learning and growth.

Bank Street College is concerned with appropriateness and excellence in education throughout early childhood.
